Intentional Giving

What if my purpose is unclear and I can’t figure it out? What do I do?

I research. I read. I try to tease out the answer from what other people have done. It helps me to read and learn from others. What I find difficult is seeing a path emerge from all of this that gives me a clear indication of what I should spend more time with.

I’m confused, tired of constantly banging my head against the wall, trying to figure out what’s next.

My work doesn’t excite me at this very moment. I know what’s the next step, the right thing to do, but I don’t want to do it. I don’t want to pick up the phone and call a stranger who doesn’t care to hear from me. I don’t want to talk to someone who thinks I’m just another salesperson trying to sell them something they don’t want or need. I don’t want to be another scream in the throng of all those who are screaming.

I know I can help them.  I know I must come from this state of mind, that of giving them what they need and want but don't know yet.  It's just hard to conjure that up at times.

So, what do I do? What’s my next step? How do I find something that I’d like to do so well that I’m willing and able to overcome my fears and lack of interest in certain activities?

I'm trying to figure out how to sell that fits my style, personality, and doesn't make me feel or look sleazy.

May be it's time to listen to Seth Godin and ask myself about my buying habits.

So, what and how do I buy? I bought GMB fitness classes and love them because what process they employ fits my personality at this point in my life. Also, they create so much content every week that I find useful and interesting. It’s not bullshit content that just fills a page. It’s to the point with clear direction on how "not die without exploring what your body is truly capable of." What’s more, they’re constantly updating their content.  They've updated their Handstand tutorial alone multiple times over the last year.

I don’t think they’re going out there and cold calling people to join their gym. They may have started out sponsoring events or activities they believed in when they first started their business. But now, especially for their online training, they’re just creating content that’s meaningful and useful.  No doubt they're optimizing their online ads, their blog posts, and other online content to ensure it comes up under relevant keywords.  But their focus is on content that's relevant and speaks to the value they add to their clients' and subscribers' lives.

I can do that too. I can write about stuff I care about and find fascinating, whether that's business, politics, philosophy, science or whatever.  I do that here to some extend and on the VTT site.  I just have to do more of it and be more intentional in helping people with the expertise I have about eSignature, software tech and its adoption challenges, and even on personal matters like investing and ultralearning. Whatever gives value that I have some experience in, I can offer.
